Out of Mind, Out of Sight: A Revealing History of the Florida State Hospital at Chattahoochee and Mental Health Care in Florida by Sally J. Ling
Chronicles from Chattahoochee from Sally J. Ling, author of Out of Mind, Out of Sight. “I am happy to introduce a new page to our Chattahoochee section – Chronicles from Chattahoochee – real stories from people who either trained or worked at the institution. While these stories didn’t make it into the first edition of Out of Mind, Out of Sight because I learned of them after publication, they give true insight into the workings of the institution and the relationships between staff and patients.” https://sallyjling.com/chronicles-chattahoochee/

Hello, my mother was in Chattahoochee from 1961? off and on until 1970? I was too young to know why she was sent there. Born 1956. I still do not know what she was diagnosed with. My whole family in her generation and back were quite illierate and ignorant of such matters. I want to find out as much about her as possible. She is dead and could never really herself understand or know what was wrong.
I have children and grandchildren and I think such knowledge is important. I have wanted to research this for a very long time. But I think many of us who come from mothers and fathers with parents disappearing there when they themselves were at a very young age, have too many bad reasons for not having finding out about their relative.
Please provide the help you can.
