My father had fond memories of her and she was very close to my grandmother, Florinda GOMES Posey.

Amelia ‘Mellie’ Isabelle GOMES was born on October 23, 1907, in Fort Myers, Florida, to Francisco GOMES D’sa (1855-1931) and Laura Etta YOUNG (1875-1955).

Mellie and her daughter, Margery received diplomas in auto mechanics in 1942.

She died on December 21, 1975, in Hialeah, Florida, at the age of 68. Mellie was laid to rest in Trenton, Gilchrist County, Florida. According to Find a Grave website, “Sunshine Memorial Gardens is a small, private cemetery also referred to as the Padilla Family Cemetery. It is located on the property of Frank and Helen Padilla”.
